“Ugly” used to be a girl’s worst nightmare. But now The Ugly Girl’s Club is re-appropriating the word to acknowledge the real value of women beyond the superficial. It’s a word we can use to bypass the politics of a woman's appearance and celebrate her ideas, actions and intelligence.
Ugly girls are smart, funny and creative girls that prioritise what’s important. They are not ashamed or embarrassed of their body and strive to contribute something more valuable to the world.
Ugly girls are not perfect, they are human and they are totally cool with it. They have graciously bowed out of society’s weird beauty pageant and instead entered the science fair, the track team, the book club and of course, the mathletes.
